Andrew Johnson was the 17th President of the United States, serving from 1865 to 1869. He was born in 1808 in North Carolina and grew up in poverty. He worked as a tailor before becoming involved in politics. He served as a senator and governor before becoming Vice President under Abraham Lincoln. After Lincoln's assassination, he became President and faced many challenges, including the Reconstruction of the South after the Civil War. He was known for his strong opposition to the Radical Republicans, who sought to give more rights to African Americans. He was also the first President to be impeached, though he was ultimately acquitted.
