Arthur Conan Doyle was a Scottish author, physician, and creator of the detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in 1859, he trained as a doctor but later turned to writing full-time. His Sherlock Holmes stories, featuring the brilliant detective and his loyal friend Dr. Watson, were extremely popular and remain enduringly popular to this day. He also wrote historical novels, plays, poetry, and non-fiction. He was a strong advocate for the use of forensic science in criminal investigations, and his stories have been credited with popularizing forensic science. He died in 1930.
