Hippocrates was a Greek physician, widely considered to be the "father of medicine." Born in 460 BCE on the island of Kos, he is best known for his famous oath taken by physicians, which is still in use today. He is also known for his work on diet and lifestyle, and for his emphasis on observation and careful diagnosis. He wrote many medical texts, which were widely read and used in ancient times and his teachings and principles are still highly regarded today. He died around 370 BCE.
