Barack Obama is an American politician and attorney who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was the first African American to hold the office. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was elected to the presidency in 2008, defeating Republican nominee John McCain. During his presidency, Obama implemented the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and oversaw the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for his efforts to promote international cooperation and nuclear disarmament.
