He is best known for his development of the alternating current (AC) system of electric power transmission, which revolutionized the electric power industry. He was also a prolific inventor, holding more than 300 patents in his lifetime. He was also known for his innovations in the field of transportation, including the development of the air brake for trains. Westinghouse passed away in 1914.
