John Tyler was the 10th President of the United States, serving from 1841 to 1845. He was the first vice president to assume the presidency upon the death of a sitting president. He was a member of the Whig Party, but his presidency was marked by conflicts with the party over issues such as tariffs and banking. He also served as the Governor of Virginia, and as a U.S. representative and senator. He is known for his efforts to expand the power of the presidency and for his support for states' rights. He also played a key role in the Annexation of Texas.
