Alexander Hamilton was a statesman, political theorist and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was born in the British West Indies and immigrated to the colonies in his teens. He served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, and was a key contributor to the Federalist Papers, which helped to secure ratification of the U.S. Constitution. He was also the first Secretary of Treasury and helped establish the United States' financial system. Hamilton was known for his strong beliefs in a strong central government, and his ideas about banking and taxation helped shape the country's economic system. He is also remembered for his fatal duel with Vice President Aaron Burr in 1804.
