Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, and literary critic. Born in 1809, Poe began writing at a young age and quickly gained fame for his dark and mysterious short stories, such as "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Fall of the House of Usher." He is also credited with contributing to the development of the detective fiction genre with his story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." Poe's work is known for its focus on the macabre, the supernatural, and the psychological. He died under mysterious circumstances in 1849 at the age of 40.
