William Peter Blatty was an American writer, filmmaker, and public speaker, best known for his 1971 novel "The Exorcist" and its 1973 film adaptation. He was a graduate of Georgetown University and served in the United States Air Force before turning to writing. Blatty wrote over 20 novels and several screenplays, including for the film adaptation of "The Exorcist." He passed away in 2017 at the age of 89.
