Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States, serving non-consecutive terms from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897. He was the first Democrat to be elected president after the Civil War, and was known for his honesty, integrity and his efforts to reduce the power of political bosses. He also vetoed many private pension bills, earning him the nickname "The Veto President." He was also a proponent of a gold standard and low tariffs. He passed away in 1908.
